Pushing the Boat Out

Advertising terms

Plain terms for selling a boat on Pushing the Boat Out: what you pay, how long it runs, what we check and what we do with your details.

The deal

You pay a fixed fee for a fixed run. The fee buys the advert's time on the site, nothing else: there is no commission, no percentage of the sale and no automatic renewal. The packages and their prices are shown when you place the advert. The run starts when the editor puts the advert live, not when you pay.

One advert, one boat

An advert is for one boat offered by its owner (or someone selling for the owner, with their permission). Trade sellers, brokers and dealers are welcome too, but say so in the advert. Do not list the same boat twice, use an advert to point at another site, or advertise anything other than the boat and what comes with it.

Checking

Every advert is read by the editor before it goes live, usually within a day. We decline adverts that are not for a boat, that look misleading or that would not pass the standards of a reasonable classified magazine, and we say why. If we decline an advert before it has gone live we refund the fee in full. Once an advert is live we may edit obvious errors in the wording or take an advert down if a complaint turns out to be justified.

Your words and pictures

You must own the photographs you upload or have the right to use them, and the description must be true. By placing an advert you let us show the words and pictures on this site and in the social-media posts we use to promote the listings while the advert is live. They stay yours.

The sale is yours

Pushing the Boat Out introduces buyers and sellers and is not party to any sale. We do not vet buyers, hold money, inspect boats or give advice on a purchase. Buyers should see the boat, check its papers and never pay a deposit to someone they have not met. Sellers should be wary of overpayment and shipping-agent scams.

Ending early

You can mark the boat sold or take the advert down at any time from My adverts. The fee is for the run as booked and is not refunded for time unused.

Payment

Fees are paid by card through Stripe. We do not see or store your card details. Receipts come from Stripe by email.

Your details

We store your email address (to sign you in and so buyers can reply), the contact name and phone number you choose to show, and the advert itself. Your email address and phone number are shown to visitors who press Show contact details on your advert while it is live. We do not sell or share your details. When you delete an advert its words and photographs are deleted. See the privacy page.
